The Ogbono is the seed from the Bush Mango tree that is native to West Africa. The seeds, which are high in nutrients and healthy fats, are dried and ground to a coarse powder. When cooked, they produce a gelatinous texture and are popularly called ‘draw’ soup.
Ingredients
- Ogbono Soup Kit
- One glass of Water (30cl)
- Dried fish or other condiments of choice
- Cooked protein
- Salt
Directions
- Heat the palm oil over medium heat.
- Add the Ogbono to the pot and stir it into the oil
- Allow it to cook for 5 minutes while stirring to prevent burning.
- Add in the Soup Seasoning
- Mix in the water. If the soup mix is too thick, add a little more water or broth to reach your desired texture.
- Whisk or beat with your cooking spoon until the soup and water are well blended and gooey.
- Add your salt and protein.
- Add any other seasonings of your choice: ground crayfish, pepper, seasoning cubes. Adjust the seasoning to your taste.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer.
- Let it cook for about 15 minutes, do not cover the pot.
Options
- Use any oils of your choice if you do not wish to use the included palm oil.
- Add extra leafy vegetables such as spinach for extra flavour.
